XPANSOL

SOLAR EXPANSION UNIT

The pressure kit performs the same function as the ‘expansion’ or ‘pressure’ vessel in modern gas or oil boiler systems and the 24" x 12" x 12" gravity ‘feed & expansion’ tank normally used with solid fuel boilers. Its main job is to allow for the expansion/pressure generated within a ‘sealed’ or closed system as the solar system heats up and cools down. The vessel will also hold a small reservoir of ‘make-up’ fluid.

With a sealed system there is no restriction on the relative positioning of the solar collector, cylinder, solar control and expansion units.  XPANSOL would usually be placed in the loft or basement and best fitted an equal distance from the pump and on a spur to keep cool. A single 15mm compression fitting provides for fast and simple connection. No mounting brackets or fixings are required.

Should the system over heat and or over pressurise, the spring-loaded safety relief valve will need to vent. The assembly within a holding tank avoids the need to otherwise provide for an often-costly route to waste. Whilst the anti-freeze solution is deemed ‘non-toxic’ to humans, the holding tank avoids any environmental pollution, allows for fluid re-use and gives an immediate fault diagnosis.

Auto air vent and filling loop included. Filling bottle for anti freeze may be required. The 8 litre vessel is good for collectors up to 10m2. The holding tank volume is 15 litres and needs to be positioned where the volume within the pipe work and collectors above it is less than 15 litres. Given that a typical 6 M2 solar system with a cylinder in the basement of a 3 story house would hold less than 15 litres, the XPANSOL may be fitted any where in most domestic systems
